About

Princess Maria Beatrice of Savoy is a member of the Italian royal family, the youngest daughter of Umberto II, the last king of Italy, and Marie-José. She grew up in exile after her father's brief reign in 1946 and formed close ties with several European royal houses, being a cousin of reigning monarchs and members of former dynasties.

Throughout her life she maintained a relatively low public profile; her personal history includes a troubled romance in the 1960s that provoked a family dispute and, later, her marriage to Luis Rafael Reyna-Corvalán y Dillon in 1970, from which she divorced in 1998. She spent periods living in Mexico and for a time sheltered her mother in her home.

Maria Beatrice's story reflects the uncertainties and ruptures faced by European royal families after World War II: exile, dynastic transitions, and transnational relationships. Her prominence derives more from her dynastic context and family connections than from public activity or an institutional career, with her notability resting chiefly on her position within the House of Savoy.
