Sergio Conforti, known professionally as Rocco Tanica, is an Italian pianist, keyboardist, composer and comic writer, best known for his long association with the band Elio e le Storie Tese, which he co‑founded and where he was a central figure in the compositional core. Over decades he contributed as author, arranger and performer to numerous group hits, also portraying stereotyped vocal characters in live shows and handling rhythmic programming on the band's early recordings that used electronic drums.

Alongside his work with the band, Tanica developed extensive collaborations with diverse artists — including Righeira, Fabrizio De André, Claudio Baglioni, Max Pezzali and Enzo Jannacci — working as pianist, arranger and co‑writer. His output includes original compositions and arrangements for others, as well as contributions to television projects and cabaret shows.

In television he has taken part as writer and performer in variety and satire programmes, creating recurring columns and songs for well‑known broadcasts and bringing comic characters to life. In recent decades he has reduced touring, while continuing to compose and make selected live appearances.

Rocco Tanica’s legacy lies in the combination of pianistic technique, inventive arranging and musical humor, which have strongly influenced the Italian pop‑satire scene and contemporary musical cabaret.
