Rodrigo Alejandro Bueno, known professionally as Rodrigo or “El Potro,” was an Argentine singer associated with the cuarteto genre. Born in Córdoba, he developed his artistic formation within his family—son of a music producer and a songwriter—and began performing as a child, later building a professional career that culminated in national acclaim.
His performances were distinguished by charisma and high stage energy; his look and stage presence set him apart from traditional cuarteto figures and helped refresh the genre’s aesthetic. Throughout the 1990s he signed with major record labels and released successful albums that made him one of the leading names in Argentine cuarteto, earning commercial certifications and embarking on intensive tours.
The peak of his popularity brought long runs of shows and strong record sales, but it also created heavy demand and pressures that affected his routine. His premature death in 2000, in a road accident following a performance, caused widespread public mourning and cemented his status as an icon of cuarteto and a central figure in Argentine popular music.
