About

Roger Marie Bricoux was a French cellist who joined the small musical ensemble aboard the RMS Titanic on its maiden voyage. Trained at conservatories in Italy and Paris, he distinguished himself early for his skill and performed with several orchestras before moving to England in 1910; he also played at the Grand Central Hotel in Leeds and at venues in Lille. In 1912 he boarded the Titanic as a second‑class musician, the only French instrumentalist in the band.

During the sinking on 15 April 1912, the eight musicians on board are remembered for continuing to play in an attempt to calm passengers as the ship went down; none survived the disaster. Bricoux, only 20 years old, was never recovered.

After his disappearance, the French Army recorded him as a deserter in 1913; he was not officially declared dead in France until 2000, when an association dedicated a memorial plaque to him in his hometown, acknowledging his role and fate in the Titanic tragedy.
