About

Ronald Gerald Wayne is a retired executive in the U.S. electronics industry, known as one of the three original founders of Apple Computer in 1976. Trained as a technical draftsman, Wayne worked at pioneering companies in the sector, most notably Atari, where he implemented documentation and materials‑control systems that improved production efficiency and reduced losses, and contributed to the development of cabinets and electronic games.

At Apple’s founding he initially took administrative responsibilities: he drew up the partnership agreement, prepared the Apple I operations manual and produced the first logo illustrations. Because he was more risk‑averse and concerned about personal liability for the company’s debts, he chose to leave the venture shortly after its creation, selling his stake for a modest sum.

Over the following decades Wayne worked at institutions such as the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and at electronic manufacturing firms, and he published memoirs and essays about his experience. The media often dubbed him the “forgotten founder” of Apple; he has said he does not regret the decision he made given the circumstances at the time.
