About

Santiago Roncagliolo is a Peruvian writer known for novels, essays and work as a screenwriter, translator and journalist. His fiction often explores fear and political violence, themes that run through acclaimed titles such as Red April, which won the Alfaguara Prize and has been translated into more than 20 languages, as well as other stories of psychological suspense and dark humor.

Also the author of a non‑fiction trilogy about twentieth‑century Latin America, Roncagliolo treats controversial episodes and figures with journalistic research, as in La Cuarta Espada, on Sendero Luminoso, and in Memorias de una dama, whose publication was subject to censorship by the family portrayed.

Shaped by a childhood in exile and a professional life between Lima and Barcelona, he has built an international career, earning recognition from Granta and translations by prominent translators. In addition to his books, he has worked as a screenwriter and contributed to major newspapers, remaining an active voice in Latin American cultural and political debate.
