Sean John Combs, known by various stage names such as Diddy, is a music producer, entrepreneur and former rapper whose career helped shape commercial hip-hop from the 1990s onward. Born in Harlem, he first made a name for himself as head of talent at Uptown Records before founding Bad Boy Records in 1993, through which he discovered and promoted artists such as The Notorious B.I.G., Mary J. Blige and Usher. His debut album, No Way Out (1997), was a commercial success and produced singles that reached the top of the American charts, establishing him as a central figure in the music industry.
Beyond production and performance, Combs expanded into fashion and media: he launched the Sean John label (winner of the Menswear Designer of the Year award) and co-founded the digital network Revolt. He has also worked in television and film and participated in global brand campaigns. Ranked among the wealthiest artists in hip-hop, he has received awards such as Grammys and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In recent years his public image was deeply damaged by criminal accusations and high-profile lawsuits, which resulted in a conviction for transportation for purposes of prostitution in 2025. These developments significantly affected his legacy and standing in the cultural scene.
