About

Sergio García Fernández is a Spanish professional golfer whose career established him among the sport’s leading figures. He turned professional in 1999 and competed regularly on both the PGA Tour and the European Tour, collecting victories and high‑level appearances over the following decades.

The high point of his career came on 9 April 2017, when he won the Augusta Masters, his first major title. The victory arrived in dramatic fashion: García and Justin Rose were tied going into the final hole and the tournament was decided in a playoff on the 18th, where the Spaniard made a birdie to secure the title. That triumph reshaped his public image, erasing the perception of a player without significant success in major championships.

Beyond the Masters, García won numerous trophies on the professional circuit, reaching ten PGA Tour titles, which places him among the most successful Spaniards in the circuit’s history. He also represented Spain in international competition, including the 2016 Olympic Games.

His legacy is that of a persistent and influential competitor in contemporary Spanish golf, with a career that includes both success in regular tournaments and the crowning achievement of a major.
