About

Tamia (Tamia Washington-Hill) is a Canadian singer and songwriter known for her work in contemporary R&B since the mid-1990s. Discovered by Quincy Jones after performing at an event, she gained attention with her rendition of "You Put a Move on My Heart," which was nominated for a Grammy, and took part in notable collaborations such as the charity single "Missing You" alongside Brandy, Gladys Knight and Chaka Khan.

Her debut solo album was released in 1998, followed by A Nu Day (2000), which brought her greater commercial visibility—including the hit "Stranger in My House"—and a gold certification. She has worked with established producers and artists such as Missy Elliott and Babyface, and has co-written several tracks throughout her career.

In addition to music, she has had small acting roles and contributed to soundtracks. Known for her smooth timbre and refined vocal technique, Tamia has balanced hits, tours and personal breaks over the decades, building a legacy as a respected performer on the southern Canadian and international R&B scene.
