Timothy Britten Parker, known as Toby Parker, is an American actor with an established career on Broadway and in national tours. Trained in dance as a child at the Cincinnati Ballet, he moved with his family to New York and soon joined significant contemporary theatre productions, including the premiere of Runaways and the play The Visit.
Parker rose to prominence as a member of the original cast of Rent, taking part in the cast recording and high-profile performances such as the 1996 Tony Awards number; the show became a cultural landmark and won the Tony for Best Musical. Over the decades he built a repertoire in both musicals and dramatic theatre, while also making recurring television appearances, for example on Law & Order.
He is also a cofounder, in 1986, of the Naked Angels Theater Company, a group that nurtured talent and off-Broadway productions and helped shape a young theatre scene in New York. Among his most frequent roles is Doctor Dillamond in multiple productions of Wicked — a part he has played on tour and in runs in Toronto, Chicago, Los Angeles and on Broadway.
His career reflects steady work and versatility in musical and dramatic theatre, with an influence on the American theatre circuit through original performances and collective work with independent companies.
