About

Tommy Shannon is an American bass player best known for his role as a steady member of Double Trouble, led by Stevie Ray Vaughan. His professional career includes work in blues and rock bands since the late 1960s, including recordings and performances with Johnny Winter — notably at Woodstock — and contributions to albums released by Columbia at the end of that decade.

Over the following decades, Shannon became established on the Texas and national scenes, joining groups such as Krackerjack, The Mighty Zor, Arc Angels and Storyville, and collaborating with artists including Doyle Bramhall II, Charlie Sexton, Susan Tedeschi and Kenny Wayne Shepherd. After Vaughan’s death in 1990, he continued to work regularly as a studio and touring musician, taking part in various projects and recordings.

His career includes periods away from music and personal recovery, followed by returns to performing and long‑term partnerships with drummer Chris Layton. Shannon’s legacy rests on his long record as a supporting instrumentalist in blues‑rock bands and his influence on the rhythmic sound of several American ensembles.
