Yair Lapid is an Israeli politician, leader of the centrist party Yesh Atid since its founding in 2012, and a public figure with a prior career as a journalist, TV presenter and author. He gained national prominence when Yesh Atid debuted in the 2013 elections as the second-largest faction in the Knesset, which established his reputation as a centrist leader and opened the way to his entry into government.
Over his political career he has held prominent posts: Minister of Finance (2013–2014) in a coalition government with Likud, Minister of Foreign Affairs and alternate deputy prime minister in the 2021–2022 coalition, and prime minister for a brief period in 2022. He has also repeatedly served as leader of the opposition, negotiating coalitions and articulating centrist positions within Israel’s political spectrum.
Before entering politics, Lapid built a career in print and broadcast media — he wrote columns, scripts and twelve books across several genres, and authored popular songs. He comes from a family connected to journalism and public life, which influenced his professional and political work. His public role is characterized by an emphasis on centrist policies, economic management and diplomacy, as well as by his legacy as the founder of a party that reshaped the contemporary parliamentary balance in Israel.
