Andre Kirk Agassi is a former American professional tennis player recognized for his versatility and his influence on modern tennis. A winner of eight Grand Slam titles, he belongs to the select group of players who completed the Career Grand Slam, with standout victories at the Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open. His career included dramatic comebacks in Grand Slam finals and historic duels with Pete Sampras, his chief rival.
Agassi earned a reputation as one of the best returners in the history of the sport, building his game on quick replies, powerful groundstrokes and aggressive movement. In the 1990s he also helped popularize tennis, shaping style and image and bringing oversized racquets into top-level competition.
He reached the top of the world rankings after winning the 1995 Australian Open and stayed among the tour’s leading players until officially retiring after the 2006 US Open. Off the court, his personal life and his marriage to Steffi Graf drew major media attention, and his career remains a touchstone in debates about technique, strategy and legacy in contemporary tennis.
