About

Anne Lindbergh was an American writer, best known for her work for children. The daughter of aviators and authors Charles Lindbergh and Anne Morrow Lindbergh, she attended Radcliffe for part of her studies and continued her education in Paris at the Sorbonne, where she began her intellectual and adult life. Over the course of her career she published several books for children, including picture books and young adult novels, earning recognition for her contributions to children’s literature, including awards in the field of reading.

Her personal life included marriages to figures in academia and the arts — among them a political scientist and a composer — and periods living in Europe and the United States, ultimately settling in Vermont. Her work reflected a commitment to narratives aimed at young readers and remains present in important bibliographic collections.

Linked to a family of considerable public prominence, Lindbergh also contended with her family’s legacy throughout her life. She died prematurely of an illness at 53; her work continues to be listed in bibliographic catalogs and collections of children’s literature.
