About

Bill Nye (William Sanford Nye) is a science communicator, television host, and former mechanical engineer from the United States. Trained in mechanical engineering at Cornell, he began his career at Boeing, where he developed a hydraulic resonance suppressor tube for the 747, before moving into entertainment and science outreach. He became nationally known as the host of the children's program Bill Nye the Science Guy (1993–1998), noted for its brisk pace and blend of humor with experiments that popularized scientific concepts for children and adults.

Beyond television, his public work includes books of popular science — among them titles on evolution and the role of science in society — and leadership as CEO of The Planetary Society, where he reinforced scientific advocacy. Appearances in series, documentaries, and variety shows broadened his visibility as a proponent of science education.

Nye’s legacy lies in his ability to translate complex science into accessible language and to excite young audiences, contributing to popular science culture and to public debates about science education and critical thinking.
