About

Amalie Maria of Bavaria was a princess of the ducal house of Bavaria who rose to greater prominence when she married Wilhelm Karl, the future Duke of Urach, in 1892. By marriage she became Duchess of Urach and Countess of Württemberg, joining the high German nobility and linking important dynastic branches in the region.

A granddaughter of monarchs and members of reigning families — among them King John of Saxony and descendants of Maximilian I Joseph of Bavaria — Amalie embodied the continuation of the dynastic alliances typical of the late 19th century. Her marriage reinforced ties between Bavaria, Urach and other European royal houses, reflecting the political and social role of the aristocracy at that time.

Mother of nine children, Amalie left offspring who remained present in the European nobility, with descendants connected to houses such as Liechtenstein and Hohenlohe. She died in 1912, shortly after giving birth to her last daughter, closing a life defined more by dynastic and family duties than by independent public activity.
