About

Gerry Rafferty was a Scottish singer, songwriter, musician and producer whose work moved between folk and pop rock. He began his career in local bands and rose to prominence in the 1970s as cofounder of Stealers Wheel, the group behind the international hit "Stuck in the Middle with You." As a writer and performer, Rafferty combined traditional Irish and Scottish influences with contemporary references—The Beatles and Bob Dylan—producing distinctive songs and memorable melodies.

After Stealers Wheel dissolved and legal disputes delayed his output, Rafferty achieved major solo recognition with the album City to City (1978), which included the classic "Baker Street" and sold millions of copies. His ability to pair polished arrangements with lyrics that explored alienation earned him extensive radio play and commercial relevance during that period.

Rafferty’s artistic life was also marked by personal struggles with alcohol, which affected both his life and career. Even so, his repertoire remained influential, leaving a legacy of popular, elegant compositions that continue to be remembered and reinterpreted.
