About

Harlan Jay Ellison was an American writer of speculative fiction whose work includes short stories, novellas, screenplays, essays, and criticism of literature, film, and television. A prolific author—with more than a thousand published works—he became known for intense and often transgressive texts that move between science fiction, fantasy, and horror.

In television and comics he gained prominence by writing scripts for series such as Star Trek: The Original Series — including the acclaimed episode "The City on the Edge of Forever" — and Babylon 5, and by collaborating with publishers like Marvel. His contributions to popular culture include emblematic stories such as "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream" and "A Boy and His Dog," the latter adapted for film.

As an editor he assembled the influential anthology Dangerous Visions, which challenged genre conventions and encouraged narrative experimentation among contemporary writers. He received numerous literary awards during his career, including Hugos, Nebulas, and Edgars, cementing a legacy of lasting impact on speculative fiction and cultural criticism.
