About

Henri Leconte is a former French professional tennis player whose career ran from 1980 to 1996. Known for his offensive style and for being left-handed, he excelled in both singles and doubles, winning nineteen ATP Tour titles across the two disciplines. In doubles he won the Roland-Garros title in 1984 alongside Yannick Noah and triumphed at Indian Wells in 1992 with Guy Forget.

In singles, Leconte reached the Roland-Garros final in 1988 and made the semifinals there in 1986 and 1992, the only French player of the Open Era to reach three semifinals at Roland-Garros. In 1986 he reached his highest world ranking, rising to No. 5 after winning the Hamburg Grand Prix Championship Series.

He was a member of the French team that won the Davis Cup in 1991, a season that helped repair part of his relationship with the public after controversial incidents. Over his career he showed a strong ability to recover in long matches and left a reputation as one of the most technically talented French players of the modern era, although he did not win a Grand Slam singles title.
