Jacques Cousteau

About

Jacques-Yves Cousteau was a French Navy officer, documentarian, filmmaker and oceanographer, world-renowned for his research voyages aboard the Calypso.

Cousteau was one of the inventors, together with Émile Gagnan, of the aqualung, the self-contained diving equipment that replaced heavy diving suits, and also served as a test pilot in the development of ultrasonic devices for geological surveys of the seafloor and of photographic and cinematographic equipment for work at great depths.

Jacques Cousteau won the Oscar in 1956 with the documentary O mundo silencioso, filmed in the Mediterranean and the Red Sea.
