About

Lou Rawls was an American singer, songwriter, record producer and actor whose deep voice and vocal versatility made him a prominent figure in soul and R&B. Over the course of his career he released more than 60 albums, sold over 40 million records and placed numerous singles on the charts, most notably the classic "You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine." He won three Grammy Awards for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.

Rooted in the gospel traditions of Chicago’s South Side, Rawls began his career in vocal groups and sang backing vocals for artists such as Sam Cooke before launching a successful solo career in the 1960s. His album All Things in Time, released by Philadelphia International, brought him wide commercial exposure and produced the major hit that established him on the pop and R&B circuits.

In addition to music, Rawls worked as a film and television actor, appearing in series and movies and becoming a familiar presence on entertainment programs. He also devoted himself to educational causes: he conceived and hosted for years a televised charity campaign for the United Negro College Fund that raised hundreds of millions of dollars and became an important part of his public legacy.
