About

Ludwig van Beethoven was a German composer of the transitional period between the Classical and Romantic eras. He is considered one of the pillars of Western music, due to the indisputable development of both musical language and musical content demonstrated in his works, remaining one of the most respected and influential composers of all time. "The summation of his work is freedom," observed the German critic Paul Bekker (1882–1937), "political freedom, the individual's artistic freedom, his freedom of choice, of creed, and individual freedom in all aspects of life."

Contrary to what many think, Ludwig never completely lost his hearing, although in his last years of life he had lost it, circumstances that did not prevent him from following a musical performance or perceiving timbral nuances.
