Louis III of Bourbon-Condé was a prominent member of the high French nobility in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. The son of Henri II de Bourbon-Condé and Anne Henriette of Bavaria, he held multiple hereditary titles — Duke of Bourbon, Montmorency and Enghien — and, on his father's death, succeeded to the princedom of Condé, retaining extensive privileges and court offices.
Over the course of his military and court career he received honorary appointments and commands: Knight of the Order of the Holy Spirit (1686), colonel of infantry (1686), maréchal de camp (1690) and lieutenant-general (1692). He preserved his father's inheritance but engaged in prestige disputes with the Duke of Orléans for the style “Monsieur le Prince,” a contest that affected his line’s dynastic standing.
He married in 1685 Louise Françoise de Bourbon, the legitimized daughter of Louis XIV and Madame de Montespan; the marriage produced numerous children, including Louis Henri, his successor as Prince of Condé. He died in 1710 of a stroke. His career reinforced the political and military presence of the House of Condé at the Bourbon court and its influence on subsequent generations.
