About

Prince Friedrich Eugen Ludwig of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen was a German aristocrat and career officer, best known for his service as a Prussian cavalry general. A member of the influential House of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, he belonged to an extensive dynastic network that included queens and monarchs across Europe—among them his sister Stephanie, queen consort of Portugal, and a brother who later became King of Romania. His place within this prominent family reinforced political and marital ties among several royal houses in the 19th century.

Born in Inzigkofen, Friedrich followed the customary path of Prussian military nobility, rising to a senior rank in the army, which established him as a respected figure in military and court circles. His marriage in 1879 to Princess Louise of Thurn und Taxis further linked him to major German and Austrian dynasties through connections with Empress Elisabeth of Austria.

Although not counted among the leading figures of major reforms or campaigns attributed to his name, Friedrich exemplified the role of princely holders of high military commands within the political and social order of imperial Germany. He died in Munich in 1904, leaving a legacy chiefly connected to dynastic genealogy and military service in Prussia.
