About

Maria Cristina of Bourbon (1877–1947) was a Princess of the Two Sicilies and, by marriage, titular Grand Duchess of Tuscany and Archduchess of Austria. Born into a dynastic family with wide European connections, she was the daughter of Alfonso, Count of Caserta, and Maria Antonietta of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, linking her by blood to royal and imperial branches of Italy and Austria.

In 1900 she married her cousin Pedro Fernando of Austria in Cannes; he was a son of Grand Duke Ferdinand IV of Tuscany. The marriage reinforced ties among traditional European noble houses and produced four children, who later retained titles and formed marital alliances of note within the aristocracy — among them Gottfried of Austria, who continued to use his father's title.

Throughout her life she received honors from royal houses, such as the Order of the Starry Cross of the House of Habsburg. She died in 1947 and was buried in Sankt Gilgen, where her husband is also interred; her legacy remains tied to the dynastic links and marital networks that sustained European nobility in the early decades of the twentieth century.
