About

Princess of Prussia Viktoria Margarete was a member of the House of Hohenzollern, known for her place in the German high nobility in the early twentieth century. The eldest daughter of Prince Friedrich Leopold of Prussia and Princess Louise Sophie of Schleswig-Holstein, she belonged to a kinship network that connected her directly to Empress Augusta Victoria, wife of Kaiser Wilhelm II.

In 1913 she married Prince Heinrich XXXIII Reuss of Köstritz, of one of the oldest princely houses in Europe; the ceremony was marked by the presence of the emperor himself and the court protocols typical of the time. The union produced children who maintained ties with the German aristocracy throughout the century.

Separated in 1922, the princess died in 1923 from complications of influenza and was buried in the princes’ cemetery at Klein-Glienicke. She received the Order of Louise, the women’s decoration of the German Empire. Her life illustrates the dynastic and social connections of the German royal houses in the period immediately before and after the First World War.
