Srinivasa Ramanujan

About

Srinivāsa Aiyangār Rāmānujan was an Indian mathematician. Without any formal academic training, he made significant contributions to mathematical analysis, number theory, infinite series, continued fractions, among other branches of mathematics, including problems considered unsolvable.

Despite having lived so briefly, Ramanujan independently compiled around 3,900 results of mathematical equations and identities. Many of them were entirely new and original for their time, with remarkable results such as the Ramanujan prime, Ramanujan's theta function and the Ramanujan sum, which opened entirely new areas of mathematics and inspired a vast field of research. Virtually all of his assertions proved to be correct.
