About
Sultan Kösen is a Turkish man known as the tallest living man in the world, according to Guinness World Records, with a recorded height of 2.51 m. His extraordinary growth resulted from a tumor affecting the pituitary gland that caused excessive production of growth hormone; for this reason he underwent treatment, including surgery with a gamma knife and medication to control his hormone levels.
Because of his height and physical limitations, Kösen uses crutches to get around. He lives with his family and, although he did not complete his schooling due to difficulties related to his height, he has worked as a farmer. He says he enjoys everyday activities such as computer games and notes practical advantages of his stature, such as a better field of vision and help with household tasks.
Over the years he has also held records related to the size of his hands and feet, although some of those records were later surpassed. His case attracted international attention for combining medical, social, and public visibility aspects, making him a recognized figure in discussions about gigantism and endocrine treatment.
