About

Ernst Wilhelm “Wim” Wenders is a German filmmaker, playwright, photographer and producer, regarded as one of the central figures of New German Cinema. Trained at the Hochschule für Fernsehen und Film München, he belonged to the generation of auteurs who renewed German cinema in the 1970s and 1980s, combining aesthetic restlessness with reflections on identity, memory and space.

His filmography includes emblematic titles such as Alice in the Cities (1974), The American Friend (1977) and Wings of Desire (1987), works that brought him international recognition for their contemplative approach and recurring themes of travel, the city and inner exile. He has worked in transnational collaborations and explored both fiction and documentary, also standing out for his work as a photographer.

Since 1996 he has presided over the European Film Academy in Berlin, a role that reinforces his institutional presence in the European film scene. His work has left a lasting legacy in how contemporary cinema represents urban landscapes and cultural borders, influencing generations of filmmakers.
