About

Yves Mourousi was a French journalist and presenter who shaped television and radio between the 1960s and 1980s. He became the central figure of TF1’s midday news, serving as anchor and editor‑in‑chief of the 1 p.m. bulletin from 1975 to 1988, where his daily partnership with Marie‑Laure Augry became well known to viewers. His habitual greeting — the simple “Bonjour!” — and his asides to the news became identifiable features of his style.

Mourousi introduced significant innovations in the presentation of French newscasts: he popularized regular exits from the studio to report live from event locations and increased the number of reports filmed in unusual settings, from the deck of an aircraft carrier to an operating theatre. He conducted landmark live interviews, including reports from Red Square in Moscow and coverage of China and Poland during politically sensitive moments.

Beyond journalism, he took part in cultural and civic initiatives: he helped create the Fête du livre aux Tuileries, supported projects linked to motorsport, and devised television magazine programmes. His career left a legacy in television language and in bringing viewers closer to live journalism.
