Dominick Dunne was an American writer, investigative journalist and producer whose work examined the intersection of wealth, high society and the judicial system. He began his career in television and film as a producer, working on films such as The Boys in the Band and The Panic in Needle Park, and later turned to writing in the 1970s.
A turning point in his career and subject matter came after the 1982 murder of his daughter Dominique; the experience prompted his reporting and investigations into privilege and impunity, establishing him as a chronicler of the major trials of his era. He was a frequent contributor to Vanity Fair and became a regular television presence, commenting on high-profile cases including those of O. J. Simpson and the Menendez brothers.
Author of novels inspired by real events and of essays about power and justice, Dunne also hosted television programs that examined the social and moral impact of elites on the legal system. His career moved between Hollywood and cultural journalism, and he is remembered as a critical observer of the ties among celebrity, privilege and the judicial process.
