About

Jean Amadou was a French humorist, journalist and writer whose career spanned theatre, radio and television. Trained on stage in Lyon and Paris, he established himself as a columnist and chansonnier from the late 1950s, building a repertoire of satirical and erudite humor that made him a frequent presence on stages and radio booths.

On television, he became known as a host and writer of entertainment programs: he co-produced and presented various formats on ORTF and TF1, and in 1983 created, with Stéphane Collaro and Jean Roucas, Le Bébête Show, a notable contribution to French television comedy of the period. He also took part in game shows and variety reviews, and worked as a sports commentator for major events.

On radio, he was a regular voice on Sunday and morning programs, particularly on France Inter and Europe 1, where he maintained columns and features for decades. A admirer of contemporary history, his comedy—sometimes caustic—reflected a broad political and historical culture, placing him in the field of informed, critical humor.

Recognized for his long career and for influencing formats of televised satire, he left a legacy as a versatile figure in French entertainment from the postwar years into the early twenty‑first century.
