Kenzo Takada was a Japanese fashion designer who became an international reference after founding the Kenzo brand, known for clothing, cosmetics and fragrances. A graduate of Bunka Fashion College in Tokyo, he moved to Paris in 1964, where he developed an aesthetic defined by clashing prints, mixed fabrics and theatrical presentations. His first commercial success came in 1970 with the opening of the Jungle Jap boutique and appearances in fashion magazines; from there he expanded shows to New York and Tokyo and won awards in Japan.
In subsequent years, Kenzo also established himself in the perfume market, launching womenswear lines from 1988 and iconic fragrances such as Flower by Kenzo (2000). His work extended beyond fashion: after retiring from the label in 1999, he devoted himself to object and interior design, creating tableware collections and home goods. The Kenzo brand joined the LVMH group in 1993, a development that broadened its global reach.
His legacy lies in the fusion of Eastern and Western references, bold use of textures and colors, and the ability to turn theatrical imagery into a lasting commercial language in fashion and perfumery.
