About

Lynn René Anderson was an American singer and television personality who became a prominent figure in country music by crossing the divide between that genre and the pop market. She became internationally known for the crossover hit "Rose Garden," which reached number one in several countries and earned her a Grammy; over her career she placed multiple singles at the top of the US country charts.

The daughter of songwriter Liz Anderson, she made her professional debut in the 1960s and joined the cast of The Lawrence Welk Show, bringing country music to a national audience. Around 1970 she signed with Columbia Records and, produced by Glenn Sutton, scored a string of hits including "You're My Man" and "How Can I Unlove You," increasing country’s commercial presence on pop and adult contemporary radio.

Beyond her records, Anderson was a frequent presence on late-night shows and television specials, touring and recording through the following decades. Her work and her role as a crossover artist earned recognition on lists such as those of Rolling Stone and CMT, contributing to the popularization of mainstream country.
