Michelle Dockery is an English actress and singer-songwriter, internationally known for playing Lady Mary Crawley in the period drama Downton Abbey (2010–2015) — a role that earned her a Golden Globe nomination and three consecutive Emmy nominations. The performance established her television profile and was revisited in the franchise’s film adaptations.
A graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Dockery built a strong early career in London theatre, with roles in His Dark Materials, Pygmalion and Burnt by the Sun that brought critical recognition and nominations for awards such as the Olivier and the Evening Standard. That theatrical training preceded her move into film and prestige television.
In contemporary film and TV she has appeared in projects including Hanna, Anna Karenina, Non-Stop and The Gentlemen, as well as miniseries such as Godless, Defending Jacob and Anatomy of a Scandal, showing versatility across period drama, suspense and western genres. She also performs as a singer, with live appearances and musical releases in collaboration.
Beyond her artistic work, Dockery is involved in humanitarian initiatives and social support organisations and is publicly recognised for her philanthropic engagement.
