About

Omid Djalili is a British comedian, actor and writer of Iranian descent, known for his work in stand-up and for a broad presence in film, television and theatre. He rose to prominence after success at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 1995 and established himself as a versatile entertainer, with BBC shows of his own and national tours that broke attendance records.

In film, he has appeared in commercial, high-profile productions — among them Gladiator, The Mummy, Notting Hill and franchises such as James Bond and Pirates of the Caribbean — as well as voice work, for example in the Grand Theft Auto game series. Many of his roles play on Middle Eastern stereotypes, a subject he has addressed with irony.

On stage, he has been notable in prestigious roles, including Fagin in Oliver! in the West End and Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof at the Chichester Festival Theatre. At the same time, he takes part in philanthropic and cultural projects and has been recognized with comedy awards and through documentaries that examine identity and migration.

Also active on social causes, Djalili has voiced support for women’s rights in Iran and is a vocal critic of the Iranian regime, positions he has expressed in articles and at solidarity events.
