About
Princess Victoria Alexandra Olga Maria was a member of the British royal family, the daughter of the future King Edward VII and Alexandra of Denmark, and the sister of King George V. Raised in an aristocratic environment and educated by tutors, she was noted for her social presence and cultural interests, especially photography; her albums were even exhibited in Kodak displays. She was known for her intelligence, sense of humor, and great affection for animals.
Throughout her life she received several marriage proposals from prominent European figures, including princes and monarchs, but remained unmarried—an outcome partly attributed to a maternal upbringing that did not encourage marriage. She maintained a close relationship with her brother George, though her ties with her sister‑in‑law Mary of Teck were distant.
Toward the end of her father’s reign she spoke frankly about the royal family’s state of health. After World War I she adopted the anglicized surname Windsor. She spent her final years at Coppins in Buckinghamshire and died in 1935; her funeral was held in St George’s Chapel and she was buried at Frogmore.
