About

Ferenc Puskás Biró was a Hungarian soccer player and manager. He is considered the greatest soccer player in Hungary's history and one of the greatest soccer players of all time. He also represented the Spanish national team.

He became famous as the leader of the Hungarian national team that made history in the first half of the 1950s, when its squad became known as 'the Magical Magyars' (os mágicos magiares). The country won the football gold medal at the 1952 Olympic Games and finished as runners-up at the 1954 FIFA World Cup, although they had the best team. His 84 goals in 85 games for Hungary make him the top scorer of the Hungarian national team; for a long time he was the highest scorer for any national team, a record broken by Iranian Ali Daei.

Hungary's greatest soccer player, he also entered sporting history for his achievements with Real Madrid in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Since 2009, FIFA has awarded the Ferenc Puskás Award to the scorer of the year's most beautiful goal.
