Tim Conway was an American actor and comedian whose physical comedy and gift for improvisation made him a central figure in 20th‑century television comedy. He began on Cleveland local TV as a collaborator with Ernie Anderson and rose to national prominence on variety shows and the series McHale’s Navy, which earned him an Emmy nomination.
His greatest recognition came as a member of the cast of The Carol Burnett Show (1975–1978), where he created iconic characters — including the Oldest Man and Mr. Tudball — and became known for provoking spontaneous laughter among his colleagues, turning breaks in character into a comedic device.
Conway also had his own shows, starred in feature comedies opposite Don Knotts, and portrayed the character Dorf in a series of films; later he voiced Barnacle Boy on SpongeBob SquarePants.
Over the course of his career he received multiple awards, including Emmys and a Golden Globe, and was honored with a star on the Walk of Fame and induction into the Television Hall of Fame, leaving a lasting legacy in American television comedy.
